The Special Interest Group on Translation and Interpreting for Public Services (SIGTIPS), which the European Language Council set up in 2010, worked on the basis of two previous reports, i.e. the Final Report of the High Level Group on Multilingualism and the Final Report of the Reflection Forum on Multilingualism and Interpreter Training, and took the issue of interpreting and translation one step further in the direction of acknowledging linguistic assistance as a basic human right.
