Full Members
1) National or regional associations of legal translators and spoken or sign language legal interpreters that are established in EU member states may be admitted as full members. For the purpose of this article, EEA member states (Liechtenstein, Norway), Switzerland, EU membership candidates (Croatia, Macedonia, Turkey) and countries that have submitted applications for EU membership (Albania, Iceland, Montenegro and Serbia) can be considered as candidates for full membership in EULITA if they meet all other admission criteria.
2) National or regional professional associations of translators and interpreters which include legal translators and spoken or sign language legal interpreters among their membership may be admitted as full members. For the purpose of this article, EEA member states (Liechtenstein, Norway), Switzerland, EU membership candidates (Croatia, Macedonia, Turkey) and countries that have submitted applications for EU membership (Albania, Iceland, Montenegro and Serbia) can be considered as candidates for full membership in EULITA if they meet all other admission criteria.
3) Applications for full membership in EULITA shall be made in writing and sent to the EULITA Executive Committee in electronic form (info@eulita.eu).
4) Please state in a formal letter of application your intention to become a full member of EULITA, and that your association will support the objectives of EULITA as set out in Article 2 of the EULITA Constitution and pay the annual membership dues on time.
5) Please use the application form that is available on the EULITA web site. The EULITA Executive Committee will provide further information if you have any queries.
6) Please bear in mind that the official EULITA languages are English and French and use either of these languages for all correspondence with EULITA. Please provide a translation into either of these languages for documents in other languages.
7) Please describe and document the system in your country for training, attesting, certifying or accrediting legal translators and spoken or sign language legal interpreters (e.g. national/regional laws, ordinances, regulations, court rules for admitting legal translators and spoken or sign language interpreters, etc.), as well as how your membership complies with this system.
8) Please provide a copy of the currently valid code of ethics and the guidelines of professional practice that are currently in force and which your members (legal translators and spoken or sign language legal interpreters, in particular) must observe.
9) Please provide a copy of the currently valid bylaws of your association. Associations of translators and interpreters which include legal translators and spoken or sign language legal interpreters among their membership are requested to document the specific structure (e.g. section, committee, chapter, etc.) for the legal translators and spoken or sign language legal interpreters within their association.
10) Please describe the procedure for admitting members to your national or regional association of legal translators and spoken or sign language legal interpreters, or to the specific structure for legal translators and spoken or sign language legal interpreters in your association.
11) Please transfer an application fee of EUR 30.00 to the EULITA account*) when submitting your formal application for full membership in EULITA.
12) Please be aware that, for practical reasons, applications for EULITA membership that reach the EULITA Secretariat and/or the EULITA Executive Committee less than three months prior to the date of the annual general assembly cannot be handled before that annual general assembly.
