On 4 November 1950 the Council of Europe formally adopted the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. At a recent seminar of the AIIC Committee for Court and Legal Interpreting at the European Court of Human Rights, Sir Nicolas Bratza, Vice-President of the ECHR, described how the work of the Court has developed over the decades (read the presentation), while James Brannan, a translator at the ECHR, traced the evolution of the right to interpretation and translation in the case law of the Court, showing its impact on the EU Directive on the Right to Interpretation and Translation in Criminal Proceedings (read the presentation).
