The Ministry of Justice has been forced to temporarily drop the new Framework Agreement designed to regulate the supply of Police and Court Public Service Interpreters in the UK.
Following chaos in courts across the country, Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service will, for a transitional period, no longer be booking interpreters through Applied Language Solutions (ALS), the outsourced commercial agency who took over responsibility for the provision of interpreters on January 30th 2012.
The website of the European Criminal Justice Observatory (ECJO) has been launched. The website is devoted to training and networking on European criminal law for legal practitioners and others interested.
Training on the website comprises the essential videos by leading practitioners and officials and the essentials which introduce key initiatives, what anyone working in or interested in the area should know. Networking on the website comprises the members directory, in which members who have so decided can be included, and the events directory, where members can list events in the area of European criminal law.
EULITA held its second General Assembly in Prague on 4 February 2012. The Executive Committee of EULITA thanks the Chamber of Court-Appointed Interpreters in the Czech Republic (KST ČR) for kindly hosting the general assembly, which took place in conjunction with the 15th anniversary of KST ČR and a two-day conference on “Improving Professionalism of Legal Translators and Court Interpreters: New Technologies”.

The Slovenian Association of Scientific and Technical Translators (abbreviated DZTPS in Slovenian, www.dztps.si) is pleased to announce that it has established a Section for Court Interpreters. This is in direct response to the TRAFUT workshop, organized in Ljubljana by EULITA in November 2011, and the adoption of Directive 20120/64/EU on the right to interpretation and translation in criminal proceedings.
