On 15 October 2015 the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) issued its first preliminary ruling concerning EU Directives on procedural safeguards in criminal proceedings (Stockholm Roadmap), including the right to language assistance.
The 6th General Assembly of EULITA will take place in Strasbourg, France, on 9 April 2016. A conference will be held at the European Court of Human Rights and the Council of Europe on 8 and 9 April 2016. Details of the conference programme will be announced soon. The Final Conference of the LIT Search project (JUST/2013/JPEN/AG/4556) for a European pilot database of legal interpreters and translators was opened with a video message from Commissioner Vĕra Jourová in which she congratulated the consortium on the work done in the past 18 months. Koen Geens, Minister of Justice, then referred to Belgian efforts concerning a national database of legal interpreters and translators.
Legal interpreters are aware of the threat to civilian interpreters in conflict zones. AIIC (International Association of conference Interpeters) and its partners have been raising awareness for their plight for a long time. They now launch a petition to the UN in order to obtain support from official sources.
The Sixth General Assembly of EULITA has now been scheduled to take place in Strasbourg, France, on Saturday, 9 April 2016.
A seminar/conference is being planned at the European Court of Human Rights and the Council of Europe for Friday, 8 April 2016.

World Standards day is celebrated every year on 14 October to pay tribute to the effort of the thousands of experts who collaborate within IEC, ISO and ITU to develop voluntary international standards. The day is also a great opportunity to bring standardization to a wider audience.
EULITA has submitted the first draft of an ISO standard on legal interpreting to TC 37/SC 5/WG 2. National mirror committees are now invited to comment on the text before 12 October 2015.

The final conference of the LIT Search project, which developed a pilot database of legal interpreters and translators for the EU’s e-Justice portal, will take place in Antwerp, Belgium on 9 and 10 November 2015.
