Efforts by the European Parliament and Council to promote the free movement of citizens and businesses by simplifying the acceptance of certain public documents in the European Union may put an end to the certification of a number of public documents.

Call for Papers: “New Tasks for Legal Interpreters and Translators in the Enlarged Europe”
On the occasion of the 4th General Assembly of EULITA this conference will be hosted by TEPIS (Polish Society of Sworn and Specialized Translators) in cooperation with ÖVGD (Austrian Association of Certified Court Interpreters) in Krakow, Poland, from 3 to 5 April 2014. Conference languages: English, German and Russian. In 2004, ten countries, primarily in Central and Eastern Europe, became EU members.

Italian version of the Final Report of the Reflection Forum
An Italian version of the Final Report of the Reflection Forum on Multilingualism and Interpreter Training is now available under “Relevant documents” in the “LIT materials” section. The report was translated by Alessandro Boccali, a Laurea Magistrale student in specialized translation and conference interpreting at the Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione IULM in Milan.

Good news from Norway!
The Norwegian government has appointed a committee in order to write an official report (NOU) on the use of interpreters in the public sector. The committee will, among other things, investigate and make proposals for an efficient and quality-based system for the organization of interpreting services in the public sector. The report shall also touch upon training on the use of interpreters, use of technology, prognostics on the need of interpreters, etc. Normally, an official report leads to a white paper on the same issue.
