efsli and EULITA sign Memorandum of Understanding
On the occasion of the conference on "Multilingualism and equal rights in the EU: the role of sign languages" at the European Parliament in Brussels on 28 September 2016, Ivana Bucko, the newly elected efsli President, and Liese Katschinka, EULITA President, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which will deepen the cooperation between these two European organisations.
Deaf people descended on Brussels to make a noise about sign
"Multilingualism and equal rights in the EU: the role of sign languages"
was the name of a conference organised by MEP Helga Stevens, the first woman MEP who identifies as a deaf sign language user and a campaigner for the rights of deaf and disabled people. The conference held on 28 September 2016 in the European Parliament was attended by over 1,000 people from across the EU. There was interpretation into all 31 EU sign languages and all 24 official spoken languages.
